Lock contention — two processes fighting over the same auth-store lock — is exactly the kind of race that flakes in CI and then bites you in production when a second Codex process tries to read credentials while the first is writing them. The refactor makes those contention paths deterministic to test rather than timing-dependent.
Why It Matters
It’s a single commit, but it’s in the right place. Codex’s auth store is the gate every CLI session walks through, and a flaky contention test is a smell that the real lock handling might misbehave under load. Tightening the test now is cheaper than debugging a credential-store deadlock later.
